What It Is
The Opal Standard of Care™ is a quarterly observance dedicated to honoring nurses whose commitment to care reflects excellence, integrity, and stewardship.
Inspired by the quiet strength and lifelong service of a woman named Opal, this standard affirms a principle we refuse to abandon:
Care must flow in both directions—nurse to patient, and profession back to nurse.
This is not a fundraiser campaign. It is a professional covenant: a recurring, disciplined moment where we honor nursing, strengthen solidarity, and support nurses in real life through the CARE-INF™ Nurse Emergency/Hardship Impact Fund.

Each quarter, CARE-INF publishes a new Opal Standard of Care™ observance that includes:

Who Can Participate
Open to All
The Opal Standard of Care™ is open to anyone who supports nursing—nurses, students, families, patients, and community allies.
Fund eligibility requirements apply only to the Impact Fund.
Impact Fund Eligibility
To be eligible to request support through the CARE-INF™ Nurse Emergency/Hardship Impact Fund, you must:
- Be a U.S. nurse (active or inactive license, including retirement)
- Be a CARE-INF Nurse Community member
- Have maintained membership for at least 90 days prior to requesting fund support
- Meet basic verification requirements during the review process

Your $1/month Opal subscription supports the CARE-INF™ Nurse Emergency/Hardship Impact Fund, created to help nurses facing hardship with a low threshold and a dignity-first process.

Is this religious?
No. The Opal Standard of Care™ is a professional observance grounded in nursing values—integrity, service, dignity, and solidarity.
Is the $1/month subscription required?
No. The monthly subscription is voluntary. Participation in the observance is open to everyone, with or without a subscription.
Does subscribing guarantee Impact Fund support?
No. The Impact Fund has eligibility and review criteria to ensure fairness, safety, and sustainability. A subscription supports the fund but does not guarantee individual assistance.
Is this the same as CARE-INF membership?
No. The Opal Standard $1/month subscription is separate from CARE-INF Nurse Community membership. Membership has its own signup and fee on the Membership page.
How do I cancel?
After subscribing, use “Manage subscription” on this page (when logged in) to open Stripe’s secure billing portal, where you can cancel or update your payment method. Billing stops at the end of the current period.
